When Leonardo da Vinci wasn't busy painting, sculpting or otherwise being brilliant, he spent his free time drawing mechanical throwing machines. Now you can match wits with da Vinci and put your coordination skills to the test with this build-it-yourself, working re-creation of his 15th Century catapult. With just an hour of assembly time, this bad boy can hurl a small clay ball over four meters, which comes in handy for ambushing pesky kid brothers or protecting cubicles from annoying coworkers. All pieces are pre-cut and made with natural, untreated wood from sustainable forests.

Braindrops  Okay, we admit it. Spitballs are kind of juvenile and they do very little for your brain cells. But these are not spitballs. These are Braindrops - chemistry wonders that are a major step up from the old-school kind! For starters, they grow up to 100 times their original size when immersed in water, can be dyed with food coloring or flavored with beverages, and (most awesome of all) can be reused repeatedly. They’re designed for launching, bouncing, throwing, smashing, spitting from a straw, and other delightfully juvenile activities we have yet to think of.

The Idea

Create a recreation of Leonardo da Vinci's fifteenth-century catapult.

The Brains

Use planning skills to build, & fine motor skills to construct.

The A-Ha

Takes just over an hour to assemble & flings things up to 100 feet.

Brain Health Expert Says

Creating this 3-dimensional structure from a set of instructions stimulates planning skills, as well as the fine motor skills needed to construct the catapult and manipulate it. Even after it's built you can strengthen your visual-spatial skills to aim at targets.

The Brain Coach Says

Da Vinci's Catapult exposes beginning builders to the genius of Leonardo da Vinci and can toss a spitball clear across the room. Comes with everything you need to successfully construct.

One of the best gifts

5

This last-second gift was a favorite this Christmas. It took up a bit of time in construction but it was simple to put together and only required Elmer's glue. Figuring out how to make it shoot further and accurately was a fun excercise and the brain drops made it safe to use the cat as a moving target. I'm really glad I bought this for my husband because I now get to play with it and have it looking awesome in my house too! I would definitely be game for any more Da Vinci models or ANY design trebuchet. Great gift- good price and I like having it in my house as a piece of "art."

Super Fun

Although it was an instant hit, it almost injured our cat. still fun, and still beloved

GREAT

I loved this thing! Not only is it fun to launch, but also great to know that you actually assembled that. However, when I got mine, one of the pieces was cracked, but I thought nothing of it until I fired it. Then it snapped. However, when I brought it into the Marbles Store, absolutely no problems returning it and getting a new one. I love this store and the people who work there! Great Job!

From Marbles:

We're sad to hear that your first Catapult broke, but glad to hear that the Marbles team was so great about arranging a replacement. Happy launching!
