So you want to learn to play chess, but you hate to lose while mastering a new game. Enter Solitaire Chess, a clever game from ThinkFun that lets you learn the game or sharpen your skills without risking the aforementioned agony of defeat. Here’s how it works: You start with 10 chess pieces and 60 challenges. Just set up the board as shown on the challenge card and then use the rules of chess to move and capture pieces. When there’s just one piece left on the board, you win and get to move onto the next challenge card in the deck. Like the regular game, Solitaire Chess will exercise your critical thinking, spatial, analytical and decision making skills.

    Brain Health Expert Says:

"You can improve your reasoning, logic, and critical thinking skills by playing Solitaire Chess. The direction cards provide challenges at different levels that engage the frontal lobe, which governs executive functions such as decision making."

A great way to teach chess and the way the pieces move. It's also a fantastic single player critical thinking game. Easily taken on the road, each exercise takes about 20 minutes and increase in difficulty.
