Okay, we admit it. These are kind of juvenile, and at first glance, they do very little for your brain cells. But these are Braindrops - chemistry wonders that are a major step up from the old-school kind! For starters, they grow up to 100 times their original size when immersed in water, can be dyed with food coloring, and (most awesome of all) can be reused repeatedly. They are designed for bouncing, throwing, smashing, spitting from a straw, and other delightfully immature activities we have yet to think of. Here are some more ideas:

  • Color them with food coloring
  • Dry them out and reuse them (if you haven't smashed them!)
  • Launch them from da Vinci's Catapult
  • Hide them in your friends pockets
  • Fill a bathtub with them (but these probably shouldn't go down the drain!)
  • Make jewelry with them
  • Put them in someone's shoes
  • Drop them from great heights
  • Use them as marbles
  • Fill a flower vase
  • Put some in a bag and balance over a doorway for sneaky sabotage

The Idea

Chemistry wonders that grow up to 200 times their size when immersed in water.

The Brains

A fun chemistry experiment showing the range of polymeric materials.

The A-Ha

Can be reused repeatedly as they shrink back to original size.

Brain Health Expert Says

Introduces users to the extraordinary range of properties of polymeric materials, and facilitates exploration. A fun example of chemistry principles.

The Brain Coach Says

Braindrops are easily the squishiest ammunition I've had the privilege to use. Also, quite fun and very effective.

"Braindrops are falling on my head." That's how the song goes, right?

cool but don't dry out and get moldy

These were fun to throw at first, but instead of drying out so that we could reuse them, they grew mold. We had to throw them away.

From Marbles:

Moldy Braindrops sound awful and you probably made the right call throwing them away. Next time, we suggest: laying them out on a dry paper towel, in a single layer with minimum touching between Braindrops, and leaving them in a sunny spot for 2-3 days.

These are awesome

I love throwing them at cars that drive by and they are super fun for squishing through a mesh screen.

Drying them out...

We in The Brain Workshop would like to thank everyone who took the time to review Braindrops. In our experience, the best way to dry out the little dudes for repeat play is to spread them out in a single layer on an absorbent surface like a paper towel. If possible, leave them in a dry, sunny spot for 2-3 days. Then let the fun begin all over again!

Awesome!

Very fun to throw at people and launch with the Da Vinci catapult. It's amazing how large the can grow in a short period of time and shrink back just as fast! I also enjoy making them a rainbow of colors.
