Mastermind is a classic code-breaking game of logic and reason. The object of the game is for the codebreaker to guess the sequence of four colored pegs of the code-maker’s choosing through a series of guesses that become increasingly calculated and educated. This two-player strategy game exercises critical thinking skills and bridges generations, making it a smart game for families. Just don’t be surprised when Junior gives Grandpa a run for his money and exhibits code-breaking skills worthy of recruitment by the CIA, MI6 and countless other clandestine intelligence agencies.

    How to Play:

One player is the Codemaker, the other is the Codebreaker. The Codemaker chooses 4 colored pegs in a specific order and sets up the Code so that it is concealed behind the shield. The Codebreaker attempts to solve the Code by placing 4 pegs in the first row of holes. If the Breaker gets the color and position of a peg right, the Maker places a red key peg next to the guess. If the Breaker gets the color right but in the wrong position, they receive a white peg. Using logic and deduction, the Breaker attempts to solve the Code. The Maker receives one point for every row used to solve the Code. If all 10 rows have been used without solving, the Maker receives 11 points. Players switch roles.

    How to Win:

Score the most points after playing any predetermined number of games.

    The Marbles BrainCoach says...

I have many fond memories of childhood afternoons spent playing the original Mastermind with my brothers. Many years later the game is still a challenge and is still fun to play! I only wish they kept the original packaging with the awesome photo of the bearded Mastermind and his mysterious companion.
