Increase Your Vocabulary With Word Games

The Parietal lobe is one of the areas of the brain that is responsible for interpreting and remembering the spelling and meanings of words. Along with Broca's Area (in the frontal lobe) and Wernicke's Areas (in the temporal lobe), the parietal lobe give us the ability to process, understand and speak language. Playing word games can help strengthen these areas. For instance, researchers and educators believe that reading and playing word games are the top two ways to strengthen your vocabulary and other word skills. Playing word games can also help you improve usage and understanding of words as well as syntax (how sentences are structured). You've Been Sentenced is a fun and engaging group game that challenges players to create sentences with the word cards they are given. Players receive ten cards and have to try to use as many as possible before the timer runs out. The sentences must be grammatically correct and make sense. If other players don't think the sentence is valid, they can challenge it. If a sentence passes a challenge or is unchallenged, the points can be totaled. Twice the tiles, twice the fun. Double Bananagrams is an awesome game for exercising your word recall, spelling and vocabulary. It also revs up your processing speed as you race against your opponents. How quickly can you complete your grid with the tiles that you draw? Using your recall and vocabulary skills, you race to form intersecting word patterns. Oh no! You drew a Q! Now what do you do? Flex those word skill muscles as you wow your opponents with your word forming agility. Remember it's not always the lengthy words that help you win in this game. Little words work just as well sometimes. When all of the tiles have been pulled, the player who finishes first wins.
