From Best Sellers to Featured New Arrivals to Marbles Originals, there are so many great games to choose from. But sometimes a great product doesn’t get as much attention as we think it deserves. This post attempts to redress that wrong, and will hopefully be the first in a series of posts highlighting an “Under-the-Radar Gem” that we know you’ll love!
Today’s Gem: Zenith
Zenith is a strategic Critical Thinking board game for 2 to 4 players, with many unique attributes that make it fun, challenging, and interesting over multiple plays.
The goal is to outmaneuver your opponents as you build connections with your game pieces, stacking on top of yours or other players’, until only one player can place a piece on the board.
Choose Your Mountain
Each board has a different design that players are laying their pieces on, and each design has different challenges; Mount Fuji is an equilateral triangle, while Krakatoa is a multi-faceted design that covers almost the entire board’s space. Twin Peaks and Pike’s Peak each offer their own differences of play.
Build Your Way to the Top
There are 116 triangle playing pieces, each double-sided with a different color. Each player chooses a color, and depending on whether you’re playing with 2, 3, or 4 players, the pieces are divided up accordingly.
In the traditional 4-player game, each player starts with 29 pieces of their color. Players take turns placing one game piece on any open white space on the board. After a few turns, the game play shifts from claiming space for your color to stacking upward on top of other pieces. On your turn, you can place your piece on top of other pieces already placed on two conditions:
1) There must be three supporting pieces already placed and
2) At least one of those supporting pieces is your color
As long as these conditions are met, you can stack your piece on top. The goal is to strategize where your pieces are placed so you maneuver your opponents into “dead-ends”.
A Dead-End occurs when every “white space” has already been covered, or all of the colors on the stacks currently in play prohibit that player from placing their piece. The last player able to place one of their pieces wins the game!
