What eight letter word means “to scratch, claw, or grope about clumsily or frantically”?

Here’s a hint: it’s also one of the most popular word games of all time.

Super Scrabble

Super Scrabble

It’s Scrabble, and yes, it’s a real word. Invented by Mosher Butts, an out-of-work architect from Poughkeepsie, NY, the story of Scrabble’s success seems to involve far more luck than the game itself. Scrabble has become so popular that there are now National and even World Scrabble Championship tournaments, held every other year. The 2009 tournament will be held November 26-29 in Malaysia, and we can expect an international crowd, as 23 countries were represented last year.
Scrabble Slam

Scrabble Slam

Due to its popularity, Scrabble options now abound, from Super Scrabble to Scrabble Folio, and there are plenty of variations on play, such as the Scrabble Puzzles Books for solo practice and the new Scrabble Slam. What’s your highest word score?

You can expect all these products and many more wonderful word skill builders when Marbles: The Brain Store opens in Lincoln Square two weeks from today. If you pass by 4745 N. Lincoln Avenue, you can see that our sign is up!
